What a fantastic service. I ordered some corporate gifts and had one of them sent to myself to experience what the package looked like. Something was missing, but that turned out to have been my own mistake. I overlooked this when ordering.Although the other packages were already packed and ready for shipment, they were adjusted in consultation with Jurien and still sent as I would have liked. This shows that Food & Wood really cares about the customers. Thank you for that.

Pamela thought extensively in advance so she was perfectly prepared. The quality of both service and food was very good! For our wedding we had delicious and super beautifully prepared drinks boards, exactly to our liking! In addition, we had asked if Food & Wood would also take care of the preparation of our cake table. This too was super well done! Afterwards they neatly packed all the leftovers so we could still enjoy them in the evening, perfect! Unfortunately we do not (yet) have a picture of the drinks boards when they were served, only of the neatly served leftovers and the cake table.

Super company, the delivery guy reported twice that nobody was home (without being there) and the package was returned to sender. Food & Wood immediately sent a new package and fortunately the delivery guy did arrive. Thanks to the quick action of Food & Wood I still got the birthday present on time. Really top service! Can recommend Food & Wood to everyone.

I gave the Primavera Borrelplank to my sister and her boyfriend, including the free Pinot Grigio wine they got for free with the monthly promotion and they loved it. The description with it was perfect for putting the board together! 😀

Last week was National Week Without Meat and of course we as an organization also participated. Colleagues could take part in a knowledge quiz for a chance to win a vegetarian drinks box. In the end we had 6 lucky winners. Pamela likes to think along with you in terms of possibilities and is very service-oriented. I can definitely recommend the drinks box. For my colleagues it was really a gift.

Did you know that over 80% of beer lovers can only truly appreciate the taste of their favourite beer with the right snack? The perfection of a good glass of beer is often overshadowed by the choice of accompanying food. In this blog post, we invite you to join us in exploring the fascinating world of snack and beer pairings. Whether you’re a fan of a strong stout or a refreshing pilsner, we’ll help you discover the ideal snack that will not only delight your taste buds but also take your beer journey to the next level. Get inspired and explore the art of the perfect pairing!

Light and Refreshing: Lager and Witbier

When enjoying a refreshing lager or a sublime wheat beer, the choice of snacks can make all the difference to your overall beer experience. Light beers are often refreshing and mild in flavour, making them perfect partners for certain snacks that also have a fresh and crisp quality. In this section, we’ll explore the best pairings and explain how these snacks complement the flavours of the beers.

Fresh Chips and Spicy Dips

One of the simplest, yet effective options for pairing with lagers and wheat beers is potato chips, especially those with a hint of flavor or spice.

Examples of Chips:

  • Doritos Spicy Nacho: The spicy taste of these chips contrasts nicely with the freshness of a white beer.
  • Kettle Chips Sea Salt & Vinegar: The sour note of vinegar makes these chips an excellent complement to the bitterness of a lager.

Dips:

  • Guacamole: The creaminess of avocado combined with the fresh taste of lime goes fantastically with the light trademarks of lager and wheat beer.
  • Hummus: Think of a hearty hummus with extra lemon, which helps to bring out the light flavors of the beer.

Nachos with Guacamole

Nachos are not only a crowd pleaser but also a perfect snack to serve with light beers. The salty and crunchy nature of nachos combined with guacamole makes it a sophisticated choice.

Preparation:

  • Use Tostitos Scoops to scoop the guacamole perfectly.
  • Make your own guacamole with Mexican Hass Avocados, lime, garlic, and some salt for an extra dimension of flavor.

Citrus Fruit Salad

A fresh citrus salad can do wonders with a cold glass of lager or wheat beer. The acidity of the oranges and grapefruits helps to bring out the subtle flavors of the beers.

Ingredients for a Citrus Salad:

  • Arugula: The peppery flavor of arugula adds an interesting counterpoint to the sweetness of citrus.
  • Oranges and Grapefruits: Slice these and add them for an explosion of flavor.
  • Feta: Crumbled feta can add a salty note, making the drinking experience even more enjoyable.

Comparison Table of Snacks

Snack Typical Taste Characteristics Why it Fits Well
Doritos Spicy Nacho Spicy and savory Contrasting with the freshness of beer
Kettle Chips Vinegar Sour and salty taste Enhances the fresh character of beer
Nachos with Guacamole Soft and creamy with a spicy touch Creaminess balances the carbonated beers
Citrus Salad Fresh, sour, salty Enhances the fruity nuances of the beers

Full and Robust: IPA and Amber Beer

In this section of our blog, we focus on the full, robust flavors of India Pale Ales (IPAs) and amber beers. These types of beer are especially beloved by beer lovers for their unique flavor profiles and the way they lend themselves so well to pairing with various snacks.

The Characteristics of IPA and Amber Beer

IPA: Bitter, Aromatic and Complex

India Pale Ales are famous for their hoppy character, which manifests itself in both aroma and flavor. The bitterness of an IPA comes from the hops added during the brewing process. Popular IPA brands include:

  • BrewDog Punk IPA: This IPA has a fruity taste with notes of grapefruit and tropical fruit, making it perfect to pair with spicy snacks.
  • La Chouffe Golden Ale: A Belgian variant that is complex and has a nice balance between sweetness and bitterness, with a surprising spiciness.

Amber Beer: Full of Flavor with a Caramel-Like Sweetness

Amber beers are milder in bitterness than IPAs and often have a warmer, caramel-like sweetness. They are usually amber in color and have a solid malt base. Examples of well-regarded amber beers include:

  • Fat Tire Amber Ale: This amber ale from New Belgium Brewing has a sweet, malty taste with hints of caramel and a light hop bitterness.
  • Brooklyn Lager: This amber lager offers an excellent balance of hops and malt, with a nice, refreshing finish.

Snacks That Enhance Taste Ratio

The right snacking can greatly enhance the taste sensations of a beer. Here are some snacks that pair particularly well with IPAs and amber beers:

Spicy Nuts

Spicy notes are a great complement to the bitter character of IPAs. The spices in the notes enhance the hop aromas and make the taste experience even more intense. Brands like Nuts & Co offer a variety of spicy notes that pair well with IPAs.

Cheese Boards with Strong Cheeses

Strong cheeses, like blue cheese or aged cheese, create a delicious combination with the sweet and bitter elements of both IPAs and amber beers. Think:

  • Stilton Cheese: The sharp, salty flavor of this blue cheese pairs beautifully with the fruity notes of an IPA.
  • Comte: This French cheese with a nutty flavor pairs perfectly with the complex profiles of amber beers.

BBQ wings

The sweet and smoky flavors of BBQ wings complement the complexity of amber beers perfectly, while the sharpness of the wings balances the bitterness of IPAs. Brands like Frank's RedHot provide an excellent sauce for BBQ wings that you can make yourself.

The Balance Between Bitter and Sweet Notes

Both IPAs and amber beers are distinguished by their unique balance of bitterness and sweetness, which is the result of different ingredients and brewing methods.

Here's a comparison of some key points about IPAs and amber beers:

Feature IPA Amber beer
Bitterness Tall, with pronounced hop aromas Average, with a sweeter, malty base
Sweetness Lower than amber beer, often a fruity aftertaste High, with notes of caramel and nuts
Colour Gold to amber Amber to copper colored
Sample brands BrewDog, La Chouffe, Sierra Nevada Fat Tire, Brooklyn Lager

By actively experimenting with different combinations of snacks and beers, you can discover which flavors harmonize best for you. Thanks to the versatility of both IPAs and amber beers, there is enough choice and discovery for every connoisseur within this robust beer repertoire.

Dark and Spicy: Stout and Porter

The world of stout and porter is one of rich, complex flavors and aromas that invite pairing. In this section, we explore how these beer styles come together with different snacks and desserts to create an unforgettable taste sensation.

The Taste of Stout and Porter

Stouts and porters are beers that are distinguished by their dark color and full flavors. These beers often have notes of chocolate, roasted coffee, and caramel, with a mild bitterness that comes from the roasted malt. There are several types of stouts and porters, including:

  • Dry Stout: Characteristic is the dry, bitter taste, perfect to combine with creamy or sweet snacks. A well-known example is Guinness.
  • Sweet Stout: Also called milk stout, has a higher sweetness due to the addition of lactose sugar. A good example is Left Hand Milk Stout.
  • Imperial Stout: Stronger beers with more alcohol and complex flavors. Recommended is The Abyss from Deschutes Brewery.
  • Robust Porter: This type has a fuller body and notes of chocolate and caramel. Try Founders Porter for a rich experience.

Perfect Snacks for Stout and Porter

When pairing stout and porter with snacks, it is important to balance the flavors. Here are some excellently composed snacks:

Chocolate

Chocolate is a classic pairing with stout and porter. The sweetness and creaminess of chocolate complement the bitter notes of the beer. Here are some examples:

  • Dark Chocolate: Preferably with a cocoa percentage of at least 70% to complement the flavors. Try Lindt Excellence 70%.
  • Chocolate Truffles: Stout-infused truffles such as the Yummy Earth Organic Dark Chocolate Truffles offer a beautiful combination.

Roasted Almonds

The saltiness and nutty flavors of roasted almonds can bring out the richness of stout and porter. Consider:

  • Frieda's California Roasted Almonds: These offer a firm texture and a slightly salty character.
  • Trader Joe's Spicy Peanut & Almond Mix: This adds an extra kick to the pairing.

Desserts

Desserts can soften the bitterness of stout and porter and create a truly decadent combination. Some suggestions include:

  • Tiramisu: The coffee flavors in this classic Italian dessert perfectly complement the notes in stout. Try Cafe Tiramisu from the local pastry shop.
  • Chocolate Lava Cake: The warm, runny chocolate heart matches the rich flavors of a stout. A specific recommendation is Chocolate Molten Cake from Costco.

Creative Combinations

There are many ways to enjoy stout and porter together with various snacks and desserts. Here are some handy tips for a successful pairing:

  • Combine thematically: Choose a stout with coffee notes and serve it with coffee snacks like espresso brownies.
  • Try it with spices: Spicy flavored snacks, such as gingerbread cookies, can be an interesting complement to the rich flavors of stout and porter.

Example Combination Table

Snack/Dessert Beer Type Reason for Combination
Dark Chocolate Dry Stout The bitterness of the beer softens the sweetness of the chocolate.
Roasted Almonds Sweet Stout The saltiness of the nuts accentuates the sweetness of the beer.
Tiramisu Imperial Stout Coffee notes in the dessert match nicely with the complexity of the beer.
Chocolate Lava Cake Robust Porter The rich texture of the dessert matches seamlessly with the full body of the beer.

The rich flavors and versatility of stout and porter allow for a range of potentially delicious combinations to be discovered. Let your creativity run wild and enjoy these dark and spicy beers with matching snacks and desserts for an unforgettable taste experience.
