What a fantastic service. I ordered some corporate gifts and had one of them sent to myself to experience what the package looked like. Something was missing, but that turned out to have been my own mistake. I overlooked this when ordering.Although the other packages were already packed and ready for shipment, they were adjusted in consultation with Jurien and still sent as I would have liked. This shows that Food & Wood really cares about the customers. Thank you for that.

Pamela thought extensively in advance so she was perfectly prepared. The quality of both service and food was very good! For our wedding we had delicious and super beautifully prepared drinks boards, exactly to our liking! In addition, we had asked if Food & Wood would also take care of the preparation of our cake table. This too was super well done! Afterwards they neatly packed all the leftovers so we could still enjoy them in the evening, perfect! Unfortunately we do not (yet) have a picture of the drinks boards when they were served, only of the neatly served leftovers and the cake table.

Super company, the delivery guy reported twice that nobody was home (without being there) and the package was returned to sender. Food & Wood immediately sent a new package and fortunately the delivery guy did arrive. Thanks to the quick action of Food & Wood I still got the birthday present on time. Really top service! Can recommend Food & Wood to everyone.

I gave the Primavera Borrelplank to my sister and her boyfriend, including the free Pinot Grigio wine they got for free with the monthly promotion and they loved it. The description with it was perfect for putting the board together! 😀

Last week was National Week Without Meat and of course we as an organization also participated. Colleagues could take part in a knowledge quiz for a chance to win a vegetarian drinks box. In the end we had 6 lucky winners. Pamela likes to think along with you in terms of possibilities and is very service-oriented. I can definitely recommend the drinks box. For my colleagues it was really a gift.

The History of Wine Tasting by Food and Wood

Origin of the Wine Tasting

The Food and Wood Wine Tasting originated from the desire to bring wine lovers and producers together. The event was first organized in 2010 in an atmospheric farmhouse in the beautiful Dutch countryside. Driven by the passion for wine and gastronomy, the goal was to create a platform where visitors can enjoy a diverse range of wines, from both local and foreign producers.

Growth Over the Years

Since its inception, the Wine Tasting has grown considerably. What started as a small-scale event with a handful of wineries has grown into an important and popular event in the wine culture of the Netherlands. The tasting attracts thousands of visitors each year, from connoisseurs to those interested in expanding their knowledge of wine.

  • Years:
    • 2010: First edition with 5 participants.
    • 2015: Growth to 15 wineries.
    • 2020: 25 participating wine producers and more than 2000 visitors.

Role in the Wine Culture of the Netherlands

The Food and Wood Wine Tasting plays a crucial role in the development and dissemination of wine knowledge in the Netherlands. The event not only organizes tastings, but also workshops and lectures by experts in the wine industry. This makes it an educational experience for both newcomers and seasoned wine lovers.

In recent years, several themes have been introduced, such as:

  • Sustainability: Focus on organic and biodynamic wines, with producers such as The Little Schorre and Ecos vineyard.
  • Wines of the world: Tastings with wines from various countries, for example Château La Nerthe from the Rhône Valley in France and Vega Sicilia from Spain.

The Participating Wineries and Producers

One of the biggest attractions of the Wine Tasting is the presence of a wide range of wineries and producers. Below is a selection of some prominent participating brands and their unique products:

Winery Country Specialty
The Little Schorre The Netherlands Organic wines, known for the Muller-Thurgau
Château La Nerthe France Well-known Rhône wines, such as the Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Vega Sicilia Spain Prestigious red wines, such as the Unique
Bodega Norton Argentina Highly rated Malbec wines
Antinori Italy Known for Tignanello, one of the best Chianti wines

By giving these producers the opportunity to present their wines, the Wine Tasting not only promotes their work, but also contributes to the diversity of wine culture in the Netherlands.

Educational Components and Interactive Experiences

In addition to the tastings, the event also offers a series of educational sessions. Visitors can participate in workshops such as:

  • Wine and food pairings: Learn which wines go best with different dishes.
  • Wine tasting for beginners: An introduction to tasting and judging wines.
  • Sustainable wine production: Gain insight into how wine producers integrate sustainability into their work.

The combination of tastings, workshops and meeting wine producers makes the Food and Wood Wine Tasting not only a fun event, but also a valuable learning experience for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of wine.

Tips for Choosing Wines at the Tasting

Choosing the right wines for a tasting can be an overwhelming experience, given the wide range of flavors and styles. Here are some practical tips to make your tasting experience both enjoyable and educational.

Get the Best out of Your Tasting

Preparation is the Key

To make your tasting as productive as possible, it's a good idea to prepare in advance:

  • Research wineries: Look in advance at the participating wineries and their specialty. For example, if “Domaine de la Romanee-Conti” is present, you will have the chance to taste some of the best Burgundian wines.
  • Come with an open mind: Be prepared to discover new tastes and styles. It may surprise you!

The Right Tasting Technique

  • Look, Smell, Taste: Take time to look at the wine, smell it, and then taste it. Notice the color, the smell, and the taste: is it fruity, spicy, or earthy?
  • Tasting notes: Write down your findings. This will help you remember wines you liked, especially if you taste several wines.

What to Look for When Choosing Wines

Key Features

There are several aspects to keep in mind when choosing a wine:

  • Grape variety: The grape variety has a big influence on the taste. For example, a Cabernet Sauvignon is often deep and full, while a Chardonnay offers fresh and citrusy aromas.
  • Region: The origin of the wine can significantly influence the taste and smell. A Prosecco from Italy, for example, often has a different style than a Cava from Spain.
  • Year: The vintage of the wine can also determine its quality and taste. Look for wines from good years, such as 2015 for Bordeaux or 2016 for Chablis.

Discovering New Flavors and Styles

Be Bold

Try wines from different regions and grape varieties. Here are some suggestions:

Grape variety Recommended Wines Features
Sauvignon Blanc Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc Fresh, spicy, tropical fruit
Merlot Château Puygueraud Soft, round, berries
Riesling Dr. Loosen Riesling Sweet, fruity, floral
Grenache Domaine de la Janasse Vin de France Soft, herbal, earthy notes

Wine Tips for the Perfect Pairings

Wine and Food Pairings

When choosing wines, it is also important to think about the dishes they will be served with. Here are some recommendations:

  • Red meat: Combine with a powerful Malbec, such as that of Catena Zapata, which has rich tannins and goes well with grilled meats.
  • Fish dishes: A fresh Sauvignon Blanc, such as Kim Crawford, goes well with grilled salmon, for example.
  • Cheeses: For hard cheeses such as Parmesan, a full Chianti Classico, such as that of Castle of Ama, an excellent choice.

Conclusion: The Wine Tasting Top Picks Revealed

In conclusion, the Food and Wood Wine Tasting is a treasure trove of diverse and popular wines, each offering a unique taste experience. From refined white wines to full-bodied red varieties, there is something for everyone. You are encouraged to attend this event and taste for yourself the wines that are so beloved by other enthusiasts.
